# Publishing Changes to a Template

⚠️

When you edit a template you’ve already published, your changes are saved to your working copy only, and the published version stays exactly as it was. This means external viewers will see the **published version**.

To update the published version go to **Share > Publish this version**

## Why it works this way:

You can keep on iterating on a template without anyone seeing your work-in-progress. Template users continue to get the latest version you published intentionally.

The tradeoff is that sometimes it’s easy to forget the final step. If you have edits that haven’t been made live you’ll see an **UNPUBLISHED CHANGES** notice on your dashboard, your project’s Read Me and a small red dot next to the Share menu on the editor.
